Aaron Holiway — I own a business in town and I also live pretty close to the proposed plant. I am concerned about odors, noise, and ground contamination. I am close enough that I fear there will be an odor and I'm worried about groundwater contamination.
Alex Osborne — I'm afraid it's going to pollute the air and we won't feel safe spending time in our own yard. I feel like this plant will put a foul smell in the air and destroy roads while lowering the property value all around. With the pollution in the air, we will not be able to enjoy our yard or garden.
Allison Conn — We have friends and family nearby with small children. They are already impacted by the school traffic. The area is already saturated. I am concerned with air and water quality within the city limits where local businesses reside. Nobody will come to our businesses with the smell. Nobody will want to start a business. It hurts the community as a whole.

I also do not want my family to be smelling things or inhaling cancerous chemicals when we step outside our house. I think they are entirely too close to the high school and home subdivisions. Living close to an asphalt plant, there is risk of exposure and inhalation of organic chemicals that easily evaporate, such as formaldehyde, toluene, benzene, naphthalene, hexane, and phenol, and inhalable dust and soot particles (PM10/PM2.5), which can carry toxic compounds deep into the lungs. Immediate odors and strong health impacts from chemical fumes are generally most concentrated within a 1 to 4-mile radius.

Will the air be clean for my family or will we develop health issues over a while? The creek runs through our property, will it add contamination? We are concerned it will change the quality of water and wildlife in our part of the creek.

Name withheld by request — Placing an industrial asphalt plant next to children who play outside daily is a toxic gamble that will expose developing lungs to hazardous chemicals, permanent respiratory damage, and cancer-causing carcinogens. Shame on the people who even approved this idea. Operating a heavy industrial asphalt plant directly next to our neighborhood will severely impact my household's health, safety, and property — toxic air emissions, fine particulate matter, and known carcinogens like benzene and formaldehyde, risking permanent respiratory damage. Prevailing winds will carry fugitive silica dust from open aggregate stockpiles onto my home and vehicles, creating a constant cleaning burden and physical property damage. The toxic odors from hot-mix production will destroy our daily quality of life, preventing us from opening windows or using our backyard, severely eroding our home's property value. Flooding our residential streets with heavy-duty dump trucks introduces dangerous diesel exhaust and an immediate traffic hazard for neighborhood children.

Being so close to a school and other residential properties will create issues for the growth of our community. The community should have been more informed on these decisions, specifically considering zoning laws and the happenings of the governing bodies. We need more transparency in these type of matters and a better way to contribute to the conversation. With so much opposition to this plant, the governing body should review the plans and take community input into consideration.

This plant is going to be in the middle of our small town, right on the same road as the high school. Many safety concerns with that one! Not to mention the wear and tear on city streets.
Bill Blake — Property values everywhere in Wright City will certainly decrease due to obnoxious noise and odors, and may very well affect the health of residents in the area. I'm a licensed realtor, and am well aware of the effects that obnoxious industrial operations can have on property values in the vicinity of such plants. I'm also concerned about health if I'm forced to breathe the odor and chemicals output by an asphalt processing plant.
Brian P Hanfgarn — I purchased my home to live in a semi rural setting. I did not purchase it to live right next to an industrial park. I do not want to smell hot asphalt when I walk out my front door, nor do I want to breathe in VOCs. Building it near a high school and neighborhood is idiotic. I will vote out any official that approves projects like this. This plant should be built on the outskirts of the city, not right in the middle where people live.

It could potentially affect the value of my house, because nobody will want to move into a home less than a mile from this type of business. I am also concerned for the traffic jams this could cause with 100+ trucks leaving this facility daily, combined with all the residents who live off of Roelker and the school traffic.

Name withheld by request — The proposed asphalt plant would negatively affect our neighborhood by increasing heavy truck traffic on a small two-lane road that was not designed for that volume of industrial traffic. With a brand new high school nearby, this raises serious concerns about student safety, congestion, and the overall quality of life for residents. We chose to live in this community because of its residential character, and an industrial facility of this type is not compatible with the surrounding homes, families, and schools. My household relies on this road for daily travel. If the asphalt plant is approved, we expect our daily commute to be impacted by increased commercial truck traffic. We intentionally purchased a home in a quiet residential area, and this development would change the environment we experience every day.

I am not looking forward to smelling asphalt every time I step outside. I am also very worried about the trucks intertwined with school traffic on Roelker Rd, the wear and tear on Roelker Rd, and the safety of all who use it. I don't feel that an asphalt plant should be covered light industrial!

I also don't want the kids at the high school to have to be that close to it. I'm not opposed to the plant altogether, it just needs to be further away from our homes and schools. This is not something that should be built so close to homes and a school. Find a different location for the plant that is NOT right next to people's homes.

J'Aimè Vogt — Three in my home with ongoing sensitive health issues, only half a mile away, across the street from Alder Creek. We have an entire industrial zone on the other side of us, which is where we expect these sorts of businesses to stay. Curious why it's zoned that way over there. On the north side of the tracks there was a trailer park for sale a while back; we wanted to turn it into a tiny home village, then found out we couldn't because it wasn't zoned for residential anymore — is that because they knew the asphalt plant was coming? On well, half a mile from plant.
